OUR MISSION
Our mission is to create a scientifically literate population that can thrive in a world increasingly driven by information and technology. Our vision for the future is a global community where students command their own destinies by developing skills in decision making, teamwork, problem solving, and communication. This vision is based on a realistic assessment of the skills needed for success in the 21st century.
HISTORY
The history of Challenger Learning Centers began on January 28, 1986, when the seven crew members of the space shuttle Challenger set out on a mission to broaden educational horizons and promote the advance of scientific knowledge. Approximately 70 seconds after lift-off, an explosion took place and the entire crew was lost. In the aftermath of the Challenger accident, the crew's families came together, still grieving from loss, but firmly committed to the belief that they must carry on the spirit of their loved ones by continuing the Challenger crew's educational mission.
FACILITY
The Challenger Learning Center is a state-of-the-art educational facility with Mission Control and Space Station simulators as its centerpiece.
