SPECIAL EVENTS
The Eagle Has Landed…On Mars!
Date: July 20, 2069. NASA astronauts living on Mars for the past two years must now return to Earth. Before leaving Mars, their replacement crew must arrive in order to keep the Mars base operational. Come to the Challenger Learning Center to hear the latest about NASA’s Vision for Space Exploration; discover what’s in and what’s out amongst the stars; and learn how the CLC uses simulated space missions to improve the science, technology, engineering and mathematics skills of today’s students. With a better understanding of the CLC, take your place with fellow crew members as one of the “senior” astronauts living on Mars, or traveling to Mars as you fly your own simulated space mission! If your generation saw the first Eagle Landing, then this mission is for you! This mission will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2009 from 9:00AM - 11:30AM. The price is $25 per person.
SUMMER CAMPS

For students entering Kindergarten - First grade. When you see a shooting star you make a wish. Have any shooting stars, or meteors ever landed on Earth? Come to the CLC to learn about meteors through the five senses: see, touch, smell, hear and taste. Then, make your own meteoroid and pack our bags for an expedition to Antarctica. Finally, travel to “Antarctica” as we search for and collect meteorites at the Pepsi Ice Center on Friday.

For students entering Second - Third grade. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a constellation! The night sky holds many wonders. Join us for a fast paced and exciting journey around the universe. Learn how to use a telescope and even make your own telescope to take home. Examine the planets and stars up close, learn constellations, map sunspots, construct take home models and astronomical instruments. Finally, take a ride through the Solar System in the CLC Athena Transport Module.

Robotic Engineer Adventure Camp
For students entering Fourth - Fifth grade. Go forward 3 seconds. Stop 2 seconds. Turn 4 seconds. Come to the CLC and learn how to program a robot using the LEGO Robolab software. Once students have mastered the basics, they build their own robots and write their own programs in order to successfully complete the challenge of the day. Finally, we will use our robots to explore space when we conclude our week long adventure with a simulated space mission in the CLC simulators.
