2010 Summer Exploration Camp Information

Crater Kids Exploration Camp For students entering Kindergarten - 1st grade.

One small step for man, one giant leap for YOU! At the Challenger Learning Center we prepare for our mission to the moon as we learn about astronauts, build rockets, and discover the Solar System. Then, we blast-off in our very own transport module to explore moon dust, craters and moon rocks! Back on Earth we investigate the different phases of the moon and how the moon affects us even when we don't see it! This 3 day camp is sure to be an educational exploration for everyone as we align space related activities with kindergarten and first grade readiness. Flight Specialist Exploration Camp For students entering 2nd - 3rd grade.

What goes up, must come down right? Not always! Planes and rockets are built to defy gravity and take us placs high above the Earth. Come to the Challenger Learning Center to investigate the effects of gravity and wind on airplanes, how they fly and how they land. Then, students build their own "paper" planes and put their knowledge to the test as they make their planes fly. Hot air balloons and hovercrafts are anothe type of aircraft that students will be able to investigate and build during this camp. Finally, we lift off and explore space like never before! All activities are aligned with learning standards and help ready students for second and third grade. Weather Kids Exploration Camp For students entering 4th - 5th grade.

"3..2..1..Action! Let's go live to our CLC meterologist for a look at today's weather." Ever wish you could explain the weather and give your own forecast? At the Challenger Learning Center future forecasters learn about the atmosphere and the water cycle and how they impact our weather. Next, we create our own weather with hands-on experiments and take a look at the satellites that help us follow our weather locally and around the world. Finally, we study weather patterns and chart local weather as we prepare to give an upcoming forecast. This camp is sure to be a favorite for any weather enthusiast as they prepare for the fourth and fifth grade. Underwater Robotics Exploration Camp For students entering 6th-8th grade.

Get your hands into our tools kits and build your very own underwater robot! From basic parts, to control box assembly, we work step-by-step through the process of building robots. and finally launching into Birkey Pond, you are making it happen. Learn about buoyancy, propulsion, engineering, electricity, waterproofing, biological sampling, tool safety, and unbelievable career possibilities! Students leave with their very own robot! Rocket Girls Exploration Camp For girls entering 4th - 7th grade.

Rising swiftly, spectacularly and with force, not only describes rockets, but also describes our ROCKET GIRLS! Join us for this all girl camp where we explore the science around us and blast-off to new adventures every day. Each day of this camp focuses on a different science, such as biology, chemistry, astronomy, and ecology. This camp presents opportunities for girls to work as scientists, engineers, and investigators as they complete activities and conduct experiments. Each day girls will have a chance to apply what they have learned and hear about careers for women in the sciences. This camp is a great opportunity for girls to interact with the sciences as they enter the upper elementary and junior high grades.
