Fly Your Sweetie to the Moon: A Valentine Mission
Nothing is more romantic on Valentine’s Day than a candlelight dinner with the one you love…unless you’re “Flying: to the Moon!” This magical evening begins with a candlelight dinner overlooking the airport runway. Next, join the Challenger Learning Center staff as we fly 15 couples (adults only, please) to the Moon during a simulated space mission. Cake and punch are provided half way through the mission when we take a break and reflect upon the developments that took place during the mission. Upon completion of the mission each couple is provided with a photo, flowers, and chocolates. This mission will take place on Thursday, February 12, 2009 from 6:00PM - 9:30PM. The price is $60 per couple.
Homeschool Mission: Rendezvous with a Comet
Hey students, looking for an adventure that is out of this world? Parents, looking for a way to integrate teamwork, problem-solving, and communication into your homeschool curriculum? Enroll in the Challenger Learning Center’s homeschool mission. Once enrolled, contact the CLC to find out how to best use the provided curriculum to train your child(ren) for one of eight teams. Students complete team training and background activities before attending the CLC. At the CLC, students expand their team building skills while working with other students prior to the mission. After a quick comet review, students are on their way to Rendezvous with a Comet. Recommended for students with 5th grade reading level or higher. This mission will take place on Monday, February 16, 2009 from 12:00PM - 4:00PM. The price per student is $25.
Good Movie/Bad Science
Could a comet destroy the Earth? Movies are meant to entertain us, but what misconceptions do we pick up when there’s bad science? At the Challenger Learning Center we debunk the bad science with good science explanations and demonstrations. Join us for a fun family evening of pizza, a “good” movie, and some “bad” science. After the movie, step outside to search the sky and look for comets, weather permitting. This session’s movie is rated PG-13 for intense disaster related elements and brief language. Price includes two slices of pizza, soda, and popcorn. This event will take place on Friday, February 27, 2009 from 6:00PM - 9:00PM. The price is $8 per person or $25 for a Family 4 Pack.
Science Spectacular
Join the team from the Challenger Learning Center and Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry for our Science Spectacular! Families are invited to explore the science that is around us everyday through fun hands-on activities. Parents and children will work together to discover the wonders of science and perform experiments that they can do at home. Science Spectacular will be an exciting day of science fun for the whole family. This even will take place Saturday, March 21, 2009 from 1:00PM - 4:00PM. The price is $5 per person, and children 3 & under are free.
The Eagle Has Landed…On Mars!
Date: July 20, 2069. NASA astronauts living on Mars for the past two years must now return to Earth. Before leaving Mars, their replacement crew must arrive in order to keep the Mars base operational. Come to the Challenger Learning Center to hear the latest about NASA’s Vision for Space Exploration; discover what’s in and what’s out amongst the stars; and learn how the CLC uses simulated space missions to improve the science, technology, engineering and mathematics skills of today’s students. With a better understanding of the CLC, take your place with fellow crew members as one of the “senior” astronauts living on Mars, or traveling to Mars as you fly your own simulated space mission! If your generation saw the first Eagle Landing, then this mission is for you! This mission will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2009 from 9:00AM - 11:30AM. The price is $25 per person.
