PIZZA & MISSION
Friday night is mission night at the Challenger Learning Center (CLC). As participants enjoy pizza and pop they will learn about comets and complete a tasty teambuilding activity. Then, excitement begins as children and adults become the flight controllers in Mission Control and the astronauts on board the Space Station in order to study a newly discovered comet. Each registered participant must have a 5th grade reading level or higher. Cost per person includes 2 slices of pizza and pop.

FLY YOUR SWEETIE TO THE MOON
Nothing is more romantic on Valentine’s Day than a candlelight dinner with the one you love…unless you’re “flying” to the Moon! This magical evening begins with a candlelight Italian dinner of delicious lasagna (meat or vegetarian), crisp romaine salad, and fresh baked bread. Next, join the CLC staff as we fly 15 couples (adults only, please) to the Moon during a simulated space mission. Cake and punch are provided half way through the mission when we take a break and reflect upon the developments that took place during the mission. Upon completion of the mission each couple is provided with a photo, flowers and chocolates.

SPRING BREAK EDVENTURES
K-1st GRADE: YOUNG SCIENTISTS
Think a scientist is someone who spends all their time in a lab coat and goggles looking into a microscope? Think again—science is all around us and anyone can be a scientist! At this Spring Break program students will work as real scientists do, observing the world around them and exploring scientific principles at work in their daily lives through hands-on activities. Explorations will cross scientific fields, including Chemistry, Physical Science, Earth Science, and more.

2nd-3nd GRADE: I KNOW WHAT WE’RE GONNA DO
Phineas and Ferb aren’t the only ones who can invent really cool things that make Spring Break fun. Come the the CLC to find out more about engineering and simple machines as we marvel at some of the greatest engineering accomplishments of all time. The adventure begins when students investigate the principles of simple machines, then build their very own engineering creation from common household items. It is sure to be one of the most exciting days of the 5 days of Spring Break EVER!

4th-6th GRADE: ANIMALS IN SPACE
Want to do something fun and exciting during spring break? Do you like animals? Would you like a job in animal science? Spend some time at the CLC learning how animals are studied on Earth and in space. During this half day Spring Break program, we will learn how scientists study animals and students will train rats to work on an agility course. Participants will also design several take home experiments and consider the possibility of life on other planets. No animals will be hurt or harmed during this class!

RENDEZVOUS WITH A COMET-DY: A Wacky Space Misadventure
Calling all astronaut wannabees! Think space travel is always a serious affair? No way! Join us for the FUN side of space travel as we laugh our way across the galaxy just in time for April Fools’ Day. Join us for pizza at 6:00 p.m. and our mission will start shortly thereafter. During our mission to rendezvous with a comet, participants (adults only, please) will need a healthy sense of humor as we mix up science with comedy. Costumes are optional but welcome!

FAMILY SCIENCE DAY
ISU’s Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology, the Children's Discovery Museum and the Challenger Learning Center proudly present Family Science Day, a public outreach event to educate and inspire K-8 students in the fields of science, technoloy, engineering and mathematics by encouraging scientific discovery through the use of hands-on activities, displays and demonstrations.
Sunday, April 22. 2012/ 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. / $2 per person (in advance) or $3 per person (at the door)

FAMILY SPACE DAY AT THE CLC
Join in for a Space-tacular adventure as we explore all things outer space. Learn about rockets, our Solar System and beyond through fun hands-on activities! First, we take a journey through the Solar System and learn about the 9, correction, 8 planets. Back on the ground, we explore the galaxy and universe. For our grand finale we investigate the principles of rocketry and launch our own rockets. Each parent and child pair must register for this session. Cost per pair includes all supplies.
